Shout out to Jamie Chestnut and Autumn Jennings for their great artwork! Thank you both 🙂

Open Studios is only a few short weeks away…

Getting ready for Open Studio Tour?  If you need matboard, I’m placing my next order on 9/16 in the morning…  please e-mail me with your requests – (I’ll be out of the store 9/13 & 9/14, so e-mail is best.)  Delivery is Wed, 9/17.

If you read this and are thinking to yourself “OHMYGOSH… I’m not even thinking about my mats yet – I’m still painting frantically!!!”  (That sounds like me!)  I will be placing another order on September 30th.  (Delivery Oct 2nd).

We also have a nice assortment of print racks, both wood and metal/canvas, so stop by early for best selection!

If you aren’t participating in the tour, make sure you get out and see what other artists are up to!  It can be incredibly inspiring, and you will have a wonderful time!  The virtual catalog can be downloaded at www.artsobispo.org/openstudios.php, and Art Central will be one of the places you can stop by to pick up a paper copy.  Other locations that will be offering the catalogs are listed below.

If you’re doing the Tour, we hope it’s wildly successful for you, and if you are visiting other studios, we hope you get totally charged up with creative inspiration!

Thanks!  etty

About the Show

The Central Coast Railroad Festival is fortunate to be able to partner with Art Central Art Supply and Gallery to sponsor the first ever art show and contest during the annual Railroad Festival in October.  Art Central offers revolving art shows which change monthly and feature varying themes.  The October 2013 will shine the spotlight on railroading – especially on the Central Coast of California.

This is a great opportunity for railroad painters, photographers and modelers to show off their art creations alongside their peers and also sell their art.  The show will be up for the entire month of October and will be featured with special events and artist receptions:

1)  Friday evening, October 4th for San Luis Obispo’s ever popular Art After Dark downtown art walk from 6-8pm

2)  Saturday, October 12th: a special Central Coast Railroad Festival Artists’ reception from 5-7pm.

3)  Additionally, the show will be up during the county-wide Open Studios Tour which brings out big crowds of tourists and locals the second and third weekends of October.

All genres of railroad art are welcome – both 2-D and 3-D.  The 3-D category will be interesting since we are expecting scratch built buildings, miniature scenes, cars of various sizes and critters of any type!

There will be People’s Choice Awards given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  The winners will be determined by public voting during the first 9 days of the show.  Prizes will include Art Central Gift Certificates, Pomar Junction Wine and other railroad and modeling items.  The winners will be announced during the artist reception on October 12th.

Local artists are asked to deliver their pieces to Art Central on October 2nd from 10am to 4pm.  The exhibit will be hung on October 2nd and any work that arrives after that will not be included.

Out of town artists should ship their pieces to Art Central so that they arrive between September 25th and 30th. Please include an e-mail address on the outside of your package if you wish to receive confirmation that artwork has been received.  For shipped art, prepaid UPS or FedEx bar-coded return shipping labels must be included in the shipping box. (This is most easily done if the artist has an account with the shipper – Accounts can be established online.) For any art without return shipping labels, Art Central will not be responsible for return shipping, and artists must make other arrangements for artwork return.  Artwork left at Art Central after November 5, 2013 becomes the property of Art Central or the Central Coast Railroad Festival.

Ship artwork to:

Art Central Gallery
1329 Monterey Street
San Luis Obispo, CA  93401

We look forward to seeing your creations!
