Positive/Negative Space?

Saturday, March 19th, 12pm-3pm
$30 workshop fee + some materials

Ever hear the terms “positive and negative space?”  Ever wonder how you can use them to improve your art?  This upcoming workshop will explore positive/negative space and tonal contrast with a multitude of traditional water soluble drawing materials.  Bring your own project and supplies and work in a relaxed and fun group environment.  Some materials provided but feel free to bring any drawing supplies you wish to explore with.  A preferred  brush (not too expensive!), drawing material (water soluble recommended), and appropriate substrate required.  Total cost of materials should be no more then $10!

Play-Dates are a chance for you to try new mediums, materials and techniques in our friendly space.  For a small fee, lots of materials are provided as you explore a new avenue of artistic expression!  And you get to meet other great creative folks, too!

        We will be looking for ocean related art in any medium for this show. Show us what you’ve got!

        An exhibit of artwork representing invertebrates in unique ways. All mediums accepted, but no live specimens please!

2-D Mixed Media Workshop!

Juliana’s 2-D mixed media workshop is just around the corner.
Don’t miss out on this fun and informative workshop!

Juliana Welch: “Unfold: 2D Mixed Media Development”
Saturday, February 27th and Sunday, February 28th, 12pm – 3pm

Fee – $30 for each day
This explorative mixed media workshop uses unexpected items in partnership with traditional 2 dimensional media in order to create unique works of art. All levels of experience are welcome! Students will be taught various techniques and encouraged to think outside of the box, break the rules, and enhance their overall creativity. This workshop is aimed toward the creative process rather than product. Students should bring an object or reference photographs which inspire them, as well as the additional listed materials. Materials students must bring: Micron pen or equivalent archival ink pen- fine tip (i.e. .001-.005) Sharpie pen – standard size-black Pencils – preferably one HB and one 6B 2-3 sheets acid-free paper (either bristol or watercolor/mixed media paper) at any comfortable working size paintbrushes: at least 1 flat brush (any size), and 1 round brush (any size) Optional:  Higgins Drawing Inks (Yellow, Red, Blue, Black).

In the gallery – Demonstrations and an opportunity to TRY STUFF!!!

10:30am – Winsor & Newton NEW Pigment Markers – totally blendable – and they won’t fade!  JohnMark will offer you the opportunity to try them!

12pm – Ever want to just try encaustic briefly, to see if it’s as much fun as it seems to be?  With Flo, you’ll get the opportunity!  We’ll have R&F Encaustic cakes and pigment sticks, & Ampersand Encausticbords to work with!

1pm – Try FW Acrylic Ink and Golden High Flow Acrylics with Sandy, and learn about some great gesso, too!  Try it, you’ll like it!

2pm – Watch Sandra paint using Holbein Watersoluble DUO Oil paints.  And while she is doing this, Dawn will have canvas so that you can try it, too!

In the store – PLAY-STATIONS!!! TRY EVEN MORE STUFF!!!

10am – Play with Dawn & try a whole bunch of great stuff made by GLOBAL – they have great papers, and all kinds of amazing products to use with them – including a NEW product that I’m not going to tell you about, other than to say it is SO cool!  You’ll have opportunities to try everything!

10am – Sandy will be showcasing a product that WE DON’T SELL!!  Huh?  Kuretake has some fantastic markers – and we want to know if you like them!  She will have an assortment out for you to try, AND… if you like ’em, buy some!  We have a display of them that we brought in JUST for the anniversary, and they will all be on sale.  If y’all like them, tell us, and we’ll make them a permanent part of our inventory!

11:30am – Sandy will give you the opportunity to try NITRAM Charcoal – tell us how you like it!  Beautiful velvety sticks – YUM!

12pm – Try GOLD LEAF!  It is so much easier than it looks!

2pm – Do you love the look of PATINAS? Have you ever wanted to try to mimic that wonderful oxidized look of antique metal?  Come and play  – it’s so easy to do, and the effects are awesome!

2pm – Join Will as he shows off the pigment markers that JohnMark will have demonstrated earlier – along with a couple of other awesome new products!  FUN!

ALL DAY PLAYSTATION:  Try CRETACOLOR Woodless Watercolor Pencils – rich creamy color and awesome detail to go with it!   We’ll have Ampersand Aquabord and Global Watercolor paper to try them on!

ALL DAY PLAYSTATION:  Try Fabric painting with TEE-JUICE MARKERS!  Paint on our canvas bags, or bring your own cloth to color!  Great markers, rich and vibrant – easy heat-set and go!

Oil Painting Workshop!

Jason Mayer’s three day oil painting workshop is almost here.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday   February 11, 12 and 13,   1pm – 4pm
Fee – $150

In this oil painting workshop we will be approaching painting from a little different angle. All levels are welcome, from beginner to professional. The first half will be spent doing exercises exploring ways to manipulate paint. The second half we will do a painting together using what we have learned.
