Open Studios Art Tour Spring 2018 May 5th & 6th!!

Art Lovers, here’s a fun packed weekend to put on your calendar for May 5th & 6th from 10am – 5pm!

ARTS Obispo’s Open Studios Art Tour gives you the rare opportunity to visit Artists in their studios. You’ll be able to check out great art, learn something new, be inspired, and maybe find a piece of art to take home!

Mother’s Day is coming.  Get an idea of what you might see by reading HERE.

To find the artists participating, you can use the online Open Studios Art Tour Catalog, the mobile friendly map, or the actual 2017 catalog that was available last year.  Just look for a gray square icon with a white check mark to find the artists who will have their studios open May 5th and 6th.

Team up with Art!

This stunning mixed-media collage project was a combined effort of members of  “BizBuySell & BizQuest, divisions of CoStar Group, Inc., during their team-building day!

Artist/instructor Jeanne Miller led this team in creating a beautiful collage landscape made from unique handmade papers. Their combined effort resulted in a whimsical and creative art piece — such a fun way to work together and get to know each other!

WOW!  This is what the team had to say:

“This was an event for the books! It was great to get our team of Engineers and Designers to come together and build something we can actually feel and touch. On a daily basis we are in a cube testing, coding and designing – this team event allowed us to get in closer quarters, roll up our sleeves and make something that is tangible that we can be proud of. Everyone had a blast and we would definitely do this again – We have a few more walls that need art work in our office. Thanks again Jeanne, Etty and Greg!

did you accept Art Central’s challenge?

Last week we donated, and challenged our customers to donate to John Sabraw’s Kickstarter campaign.  His team needs a little more than $6000.  If everyone who reads this blog post donates $10 or more, we can help them meet their goal.

Here’s a bit of info about what they are doing, in case you didn’t watch the video…

We’re cleaning up polluted streams and turning that toxic pollution into non-toxic pigments, paints and art.
The Problem:
For decades, pollution from abandoned underground coalmines has been killing aquatic life in our waterways. This high concentration of acid and heavy metals is called acid mine drainage, or ‘AMD’, and pollutes over 1,300 miles of streams in Ohio alone.
Some of these AMD polluting mine seeps release over one million gallons of toxic water each day. There is so much pollution in this water it’s like junking two cars a day into a stream.Oreton+AMD+site+1   We think we found a way to fix it. We need your help to make it a reality.
Our Solution:
Our team of artists, engineers, watershed specialists and students are working to prove a process that will intercept this pollution, extract the heavy metal (iron oxide) and turn it into stunning pigments and paints, and then return the clean and safe water back to the stream, restoring aquatic life.

IMG_5075   The collected pigment is fired at different temperatures to make new colors. The pigment can then be blended with different binders to make oil, acrylic, watercolor and other paints.

Right now our process works at the lab level in small batches. We are building this scaled pilot plant to prove it can work at a sustainable, industrial scale.”
